RR“Reflexology” what is it and how does it work?
The first beginnings of reflexology, more than likely originated in china, where it is known that the Chinese used pressure points, on the feet as a form of treatment as far back as 5,000 years ago.
Some of the earliest pictorial evidence of reflexology was recorded on a tomb of a physician Ankm’ohor, at Saqqara in Egypt, which dated around the time of 2500 to 2330BCE.
Among the tomb drawings were figures representing practitioners massaging their hand and feet. Under the drawings was the inscription reading stating “do not hurt me” and “I shall act so you shall praise me”.
It is also evident in more recent times, that Native Americans also used foot massage for healing.
How it works....................
The body has ten longitudinal zones, running from the tip of the fingers and thumbs then up through the brain and down to the tip of the toes. The body is divided with 5 zones on each side of the centre line of the body. This extends from the back to the front of the body, and includes the internal organs as well as the glands belonging to that section.
In Natural Medicine, the energy that flows within our bodies is known as “vital Energy” or “Vital Force”.
In Traditional Medicine, that same “Vital Energy is known as “Qi”.
These Longitudinal zones used in Reflexology are said to be where our energy flows through the body.
If through one of these zones, more than one organ is represented, then we can find the corresponding reflex within the same zones in the hands and feet.
Hands can be used for treatment if the feet are injured or have bacterial infections.
Crystalline deposits of uric acid and calcium that form at the end of the nerve endings, prevent the nerve from functioning at peak efficiency. Pressure applied to the reflex points disintegrates crystalline deposits on the nerve endings. It also affects the entire nerve as well as those muscles and organs it innervates.
Once crushed, crystalline deposits can be re-absorbed into the blood stream and excreted in the urine. Reflexology stimulates the body’s own healing mechanism. It is also important to drink plenty of water after a reflexology treatment.
